DROPPED is a comedy that follows Andrew Wallace, a struggling actor who gets dropped by his agent in the middle of teaching a master class to a group of children at his Old Catholic Middle School. Between his crumbling relationship with Laura, best friend turned drama teacher, and rivalry with Bridgit, a young up-and-coming actress in class who just booked a job on network television, Andrew must face his fears of failure and reconnect with his younger self who found joy in art outside of career success.

Director Biography - Lucy Hirschfeld

Lucy is a graduate from USC's School of Cinematic Arts, where she majored in Film & Television Production. Lucy's films have been featured in Hollyshorts Film Festival, LA Shorts, Catalina Film Festival, and NFFTY. In 2023, she received an award for best drama from the Television Academy for the short form series "Provenance." Most recently, she was nominated for her film “I Now Denounce You” at the 2024 National Youth Film Festival (NFFTY), a comedy short and her very first collaboration with Richard Spitaletta, writer and star of Dropped.

Director Statement

I was ecstatic when Richard brought me on to direct Dropped, a witty and fast-paced comedy about theatre kids and actors in the style of Theater Camp and Camp. On a deeper level however, this is a story that explores what it means to be fulfilled and successful in life. For Andrew, that means being a successful working actor. For his best friend Laura, that means teaching the students at St. Joe's. Andrew however, places career success above everything else and in the process loses sight of who he is.

Trying to achieve certain milestones in your career to give your life value and meaning is a universal theme, and one that’s at the heart of our film. Also essential to our film is the deep bond between Andrew and Laura, eternally tied to each other through their love of theatre and their time together onstage when they were kids. Dropped explores what happens when our closest friends split off, make different choices, and become different versions of themselves.

Dropped features a phenomenal cast and crew, as well as a lovely group of local New Jersey children who, unlike the students they play in DROPPED, are enthusiastic about theatre and acting. This film was a labor of love and we really hope you enjoy it!
