The Radical is an intimate portrait of Muhsin Hendricks: a fashion designer in Cape Town, South Africa, who became the world's first openly gay imam; a Muslim religious leader. Despite death threats and opposition, he established the radically-inclusive mosque that started the global queer Muslim network. The film provides first-person accounts of growing up queer in a society caught between the liberalism of the South African Constitution and the conservativeness of its cultures and history. Falling from the Straight and Narrow (2026) A stark and honest examination of coming out later in life and what it's like to be a member of the LGBTQ+ community in the world of MAGA A word about Falling From the Straight and Narrow from Writer/Director James Yaw: This screenplay started out life as a monologue written for a live performance in Sedona, Arizona called The Awesome Difficult Work of Love. That show brought together people from various walks of life to talk about learning to love themselves through personal struggles. It was vulnerable and cathartic to stand in that spotlight and open my closet door. I realized there was another character that informed the conflict so I reworked it as the screenplay for Falling From The Straight and Narrow. The Agent (played beautifully by Garrett Rader) is the embodiment of society as it desperately tries to keep my closet door shut and prevent me (and us) from being a danger to the world. Throughout this journey, children begin to comprehend their emotional landscape, making it essential for us to closely observe their behaviors.The short film In Half primarily explores the emotions of fear and love. While it is common to equate the opposite of love with hate, these two extremes are actually unrelated. In truth, fear stands as love's true antithesis. Renowned Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung posits that we all harbor certain traits that we conceal; from an early age, we learn that such concealment is necessary for acceptance. These unacknowledged traits become our "shadow," emerging at various stages in our lives. In conjunction with this shadow, we develop what Freud referred to as the "ideal self"__a mask we create to blend into our surroundings and avoid rejection.The inability to accept our shadow can lead to various issues, including trauma. When we struggle to embrace ourselves out of fear, we find it difficult to love ourselves. Fear indeed represents the antithesis of love. We are often unable to love ourselves due to our fear of self-identity, which in turn complicates our capacity to extend love to others.This philosophy of navigating the world—sometimes successfully, yet always with effort—is poignantly illustrated in the animated short film In Half, written and directed by Jorge Morais. The narrative captures the internal struggle of a five-year-old boy as he grapples with the emotional barriers erected by fear.Young Vivencio, a cheerful and imaginative child, is raised under the strict discipline of his father, Mr. Crabby. 3000 Lesbians Go To York (2025) A documentary that tells the extraordinary true story of how a lesbian bookseller (who also happened to be trans) created the largest gathering of LGBTQ+ women in the UK, and how from 1998 to 2008, the quietly conservative city of York became the unlikely centre of all things lesbian! This film has already been accepted into an array of festivals across the globe.Director StatementIn my work as a creative, I endeavour to use Film, Audio Drama and Literature as a method to explore and disseminate knowledge about LGBTQ+ lives, identities, histories and cultures. Therefore, when I was approached by Lesbian Historian Jane Traies to make this project, I agreed straightaway. Women, and particularly lesbians, have been consistently written out of and ignored by mainstream History, so in recent years, the lesbians have taken it upon themselves to ensure that they are written back in. What are the themes and central messages you wanted to convey with your submission?:That lesbian history is important and lesbian stories should be told. Their short documentary Don’t Cry For Me All You Drag Queens received multiple awards, including Best LGBTQ Documentary at the 2025 Poppy Jasper International Film Festival, and screened internationally. Kristal’s debut narrative short Las Cosas Que Brillan, a coming-of-age story about a Trans Latina mermaid, was produced with support from BlackStar. Kristal is developing their debut feature documentary Untitled PARS Project on the surveillance of immigrant communities with support from the Sundance Film Institute, and producing their first audio documentary on water rights in Pennsylvania with Voice of Witness. Their work has been supported by Outfest, If/Then, Points North Institute, MDOCS, DCTV, and NeXtDoc. He dreams of a grander life: Europe, romance, and transitioning into the woman he sometimes sees in the mirror. A marriage of convenience with a Dutch man offers him hope, but in the Netherlands his dreams crumble. Returning to Buenos Aires he finds his old life unrecognizable. Struggling with identity and love, Edu questions his place in drag and whether the roles he’s played reflect who he truly is. Bombacha definitions:Rural Garment: In Argentina and Uruguay, loose-fitting, baggy trousers—gathered at the ankles—traditionally worn for rural work are called *bombachas gauchas*. However, the biggest conflict for them has always been how to come out to the older generation. Now I want to move past that problem and talk about the future generation. What would it be like to tell the story of a person who is trying to make a decision for the future instead of hiding out out of fear being caught by their parents or neighbors? What would the person want most? These questions led to the plot of XX +XY.It is the age of choices, and your gender is now something you can choose. The parents of a Canadian child did not specify the gender of their baby so that the baby could choose its own gender when it grew up. Therefore, the baby's sex was listed as "Unknown." On the other hand, for most babies born as intersex, the parents make this decision at birth because they fear that the baby may have difficulties later in life in a world divided into males and females.What if a child can choose a gender and a parent supports the child's decision?If you could choose your gender, could you avoid gender conflict? These questions lead you to follow Jay's story, and the answer is quickly found: not always. Perhaps the root of all problems lies in a lack of respect and consideration. I hope that the re-telling of something that happened to me on a dark road in the middle of nowhere can evoke that in at least a couple of viewers. Our actors put a lot of miles on that old truck and turned around in so many of our neighbors' driveways that we're lucky they didn't call the law. My hope is that our viewers remember this tale when they're on a dark, lonely highway. Don't stop, keeping going, and for goodness sake, DON'T TURN AROUND!!!

My mother used to bring me a new rented VHS of a different horror movie every Friday night on her way home from work. I cut my teeth on some of the cheesiest, goretastic, and best acted B horror movies in existence. I also loved a good comedy. When those two collided, I was in heaven.My vision as a brand-new director is to make a visually compelling movie on a shoestring budget. I want color to be a main actor. I want people to feel how eerie it is to be alone out in the middle of nowhere. I also want people to walk away chuckling and having scenes play over in their minds like a catchy song. Horror is a natural choice for my vision. It’s a comfortable genre and allows for so much creativity, without having such rigid guidelines. I intend on breaking the rules.The Cat Sitter was born out of a film festival. Cinema Systers Film Festival is the only all lesbian film festival in the USA. It’s also in my hometown. While attending a workshop held by Nicole de Meneses, I was encouraged to make a short film. I felt like I was able to make it happen. Nicole kept in touch and really wanted us to succeed. A year and a half later, here we are.In this short horror film, we had no budget. We used our phones for filming. We did buy an H4N Audio recorder for better sound quality. We borrowed a drone and learned how to do everything from writing a script to using a clapper board. This film formed friendships and broke others. This film is the beginning.Thank you for watching. It can be simply about the messiness of life, how complicated and intimate we can be with each other, that love comes in many forms and offers many functions. Even from within the same relationship, when we don’t agree on what those are.That’s what Lakeview is—a hangout weekend with a group of friends who are ex-partners, -lovers, and maybe -friends by the end of it. It’s about flawed, chaotic, addictive, but fundamentally good women who are just trying to find a little bit of happiness on their own terms. What happens when the sun comes up on a late night soaked in alcohol and shaken by emotional reckonings? We sing alittle song, rinse out the recycling, and keep on living.
