When Sybi Woorland wakes on the cold bathroom tiles, her body battered by her husband Karl’s violence, she knows she must act quickly. With her daughter Mina, loyal dog Madre, and even Mina’s beloved fish Teddy, Sybi makes a desperate escape.

Aided by her friend Lisa, they find temporary refuge in a quiet community centre, a place that promises safety—or so it seems. But Karl is relentless. Tracking them down, he prowls outside the centre, threatening to shatter the fragile sanctuary Sybi has found. As the day unfolds, Karl’s violence escalates to breaking point. In a heartbreaking act of loyalty, Madre sacrifices everything to protect Sybi and Mina, forcing a brutal confrontation that ends only with the arrival of the police.

A tense, emotional short film, Madre explores the devastating impact of domestic violence, the resilience of survivors, and the unbreakable bond between humans and the animals who share their lives.
