Thousands of egrets, one orange grove, and one very divided family come together in this charming and unexpectedly funny Iranian tale of making room for the unexpected.

Sometimes families differ on what is a blessing, or a curse. In Jafar Sadeghi’s “Kabouk,” this notion takes the form of thousands of migrant egrets who descend upon the Golalipour family’s orange orchard. In the Iranian village of East Gaz, locals speculate on how Mr. Golalipour and his six sons are handling this invasion of Egrets on their orange farm. Beginning a routine of coming and going, to the sea and back over time, the family grows divided on methods of either getting rid of the Egrets, or embracing their presence. But can the orange trees survive them? The family has to make a living after all.
