Johnny, a closeted gay teenager, is stuck living alone with his conservative father after his mother passes away. He is forced to conform to his expectations of masculinity, despite longing to express himself and his sexuality. After watching a drag performance on television, Johnny is inspired. He purchases a wig and outfit for himself and dawns his mother's pearls. As he tries to sneak out to an amateur drag event, he is confronted by his infuriated father - but Johnny finally has the confidence to stand up for himself.
