In a sterling set of short films, we meet: Mahsa, a transgender Iranian woman, who agrees to meet her partner’s family, hoping for their blessing and acceptance against all odds; a trans woman dealing with one of many unspoken growing pains: tucking; as San Francisco’s tech boom gentrifies their city, three young Black trans women decide to take matters into their own hands by staging an audacious heist targeting the city’s most exclusive luxury brands; a trans woman goes on three consecutive dates with straight men; a late-blooming trans woman grappling with a life-altering, assigned-male-at-birth trans-specific dilemma; a Black transgender man planning to exchange sex for top surgery money with an older gay man (played by John Cameron Mitchell) until his night hookup turns into a hunt for a cockroach who inspires him to open his heart and conquer his fears; and Grace, a trans singer (played by the incredible Alexandra Grey) performs at a Los Angeles nightclub in pursuit of making it big during the vibrant ’80s music scene.
