About the Filmmaker:
Tierney Bonini is a Kenyan-based journalist and documentary filmmaker who has been chasing real-life stories for nearly fifteen years. From embedding with Aboriginal communities in the Australian outback to filming with FARC guerillas in the highlands of Colombia, investigating loopholes in US gun laws and reporting on the plight of Syrian refugees, her reports and programs have aired on Al Jazeera, ABC, VICE, MSNBC, ABC Australia, PBS, National Geographic and Vocativ where her short story Baby Hatch: China’s Abandoned Children earned the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award in 2015. Recently, she produced Fish Pirates, a one hour documentary about illegal fishing for National Geographic that was nominated for two Emmys in 2023. Tierney also worked as a producer for Academy-award filmmaker, Michael Moore, on his film Where To Invade Next which was shortlisted for an Oscar for best documentary feature in 2015.
