Director Statement
Completing an independent film requires a true sense of purpose, an inner force that drives you to see it through to completion. I wanted to make a film about identity, loss, and family. The story of a late discovery adoptee, like Abbie, felt like the ideal match—deeply personal and filled with moments of intense vulnerability. Ultimately, telling Abbie's story became an obsession for me.
The journey of discovering one's true identity as a late discovery adoptee is transformative, filled with raw emotions, and marked by the search for biological roots and the complex realities of acceptance and rejection. Myth of the Ghost Kingdom aims to authentically explore this poignant and tumultuous path. Abbie's story is not just about uncovering secrets, but also about the profound human need for belonging, identity, and the enduring quest for self-understanding.
