Henry Blocksidge is a filmmaker and current student at Northwestern University.

Director Statement

I made this film because I love romantic comedies and I wanted to tell a story that people like me could relate to. The protagonist is a late-blooming college student who wishes to share his first kiss with another boy. It is important to me that the idea of his sexuality is not discussed in the film because in my opinion, the best love stories leave no need for explanation. Playing on classic romcom tropes, I wished to create a perfect storm for my characters to fall into: one of charm, happenstance, and a bit of song and dance! I believe He Was Eighteen is a heartfelt, honest, and funny story that pays homage to some of my favorite romcoms. Just like those movies, it is a feel good story that leads happily to one perfect kiss.
