Kim Machado is a screenwriter and film director based in Maryland. She grew up in Gaithersburg, MD which has been deemed to be the most diverse city in the United States. Kim works full-time as a licensed psychotherapist and she specializes in treating trauma disorders and eating disorders. She learned piano at the age of seven, violin at the age of ten, and voice at the age of seventeen. She earned a Bachelors of Music in voice performance at Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, MD. Because of this rich history in classical music, she enjoys featuring classical music in her films from composers like Arnold Schoenberg, Cesar Franck, and female composer, Pauline Viardot. As a woman of color, Kim seeks to have representation in her films. As a Cuban, Jamaican, and Chinese American, Kim is passionate about including Black, Latin, and Asian representation both in front and behind the camera. She looks forward to growing, evolving, and telling stories that interconnect mental health and cultures in minority communities. Kim has been writing poetry and prose from the tender age of seven. She later enrolled in the screenwriting course taught by Neal Bell. Kim has been accepted into the screenwriting mentorship program with Dan Hoffman which she is currently a mentee.

Director Statement

As a screenwriter, director, psychotherapist, and classical musician, it is my passion to bring mental health awareness through storytelling. As a lover of film noir and 20th century music, my art tends to have a nostalgic aesthetic. True is a story that grapples with loneliness, mental health, and truth.
