"Me, Raani" is a heartfelt tale of resilience and dreams set against the backdrop of societal expectations. Anju, a 29-year-old single mother, works tirelessly as a maid to provide for her 9-year-old daughter, Raani. Her dream is to see Raani escape the patriarchal society and achieve a life of independence and respect as an engineer. Raani, however, is carefree and naturally brilliant at solving problems, often playing marbles with her street friends, much to her mother's dismay. Anju becomes fixated on giving Raani a carrom board for her 10th birthday, a symbol of sophistication to her, but her financial state makes it an impossible wish. When Anju’s plea for a loan from the landlady is met with mockery of Raani’s habits and their social standing, she is left heartbroken. Raani, sensing her mother’s despair, uses her creativity and resourcefulness to craft a solution with her friends, surprising Anju. This gesture not only rekindles her mother’s hope but also reaffirms that being a “Queen” is not about wealth or titles but an attitude towards life.
