Meeting Your Maker is a darkly whimsical short film that follows Otis, a beloved puppet on a long-running children’s show, as he faces an existential crisis just before the series’ milestone 300th episode.

Set against the vibrant chaos of a TV studio and the surreal backdrop of a puppeteer’s inner world, the story explores themes of identity, burnout, and the creative struggle, blurring the line between performer and creator in (hopefully) poignant and unexpectedly funny ways.

Meeting Your Maker is a story born from questioning your purpose, your relevance, your worth as an artist and a person. At its core, it’s about identity, the pull between creation and destruction, and the quiet war artists fight when self-doubt becomes louder than inspiration. This story is painfully personal. It’s an echo of the thoughts I’ve had when staring at blank pages or old scripts, wondering if I’ve already done the best thing I’ll ever do. Wondering if that’s enough. It speaks to every artist who’s felt invisible, who’s measured their worth in accolades or algorithms, and who still, somehow, keeps going. It’s about the loneliness that creeps in when you’ve poured yourself into something only to wonder if anyone ever really saw you in it. The exhaustion of making art in a world that so often moves on before you’ve even caught your breath. The fear that maybe what you made didn’t matter. That maybe you don’t matter.Children’s television, with all its color and comfort, is the canvas I chose to explore that dissonance. Otis, our puppet protagonist, once a vessel for wonder, is now fraying, literally and emotionally, trying to hold onto a version of himself that no longer fits.Meeting Your Maker may be dark, strange, and surreal, but I also wanted to make it hopeful. It’s a reminder that the act of creating, no matter how messy, no matter how unseen, is still sacred. That what we make might not last forever, but the act of making still matters. And sometimes, that has to be enough.
