A Jew Grows in Brooklyn is a short film based on the record-breaking hit show from the heart of Broadway which traces the journey of Jake Ehrenreich – an entertainer and Brooklyn born child of Holocaust survivors. Filmed stage excerpts and on location footage trace his hilarious and inspiring escapades from the streets of Brooklyn to Catskills summers in a trip that has now also become a bestselling book by the Chicken Soup for the Soul publishers.
“BEAUTIFUL, FUNNY AND TOUCHING. Like Billy Crystal’s 700 Sundays” New York Times
“ELEGANT, SPECIAL AND PROFOUND.” Los Angeles Times
“POIGNANT AND HILARIOUS!” Palm Beach Post
“CHEERFUL, FUNNY AND CHARMING!” Time Out New York
“HAIMISH WISDOM WITH A MODERN SENSIBILITY.” New York Magazine
“A Jew is Brooklyn is brilliant and entertaining. It is also a profound exploration of the meaning of living in the United States, enjoying the richness of American freedom as an immigrant kid, the son of a Holocaust survivor. I found myself laughing and crying. Jake Ehrenreich has found a way to confront his past with honesty and integrity, humor and respect.”
Rabbi/Dr/Professor MICHAEL BERENBAUM
Director US Holocaust Museum / Executive Director Shoah Foundation
