This Slamdance favorite is a fully improvised comedy blending madcap adventure with early-2000s Californian vibes. Made on the most micro of microbudgets, "Danny is My Boyfriend" presents as a straightforward comedy about payback after two hapless strangers realize they’re dating the same guy. Armed with a three-legged dog and some ill-fitting blonde wigs, Lucy and Mechi journey around LA, engaging casting agents, private detectives and various unhinged associates in their sweetly misguided revenge plot. Ultimately, the titular Danny proves a smokescreen for the film’s real interest: an infectious nostalgia for Y2K-era girl hangs. -ST Director bio:Lucy and Mechi have been creative collaborators and best friends for seven years. When Lucy's new boyfriend Danny asks her to dogsit while he’s out of town, it feels like a major milestone. But the illusion shatters when a stranger on the street, Mechi, recognizes the dog… as HER boyfriend Danny’s dog. Fueled by betrayal and questionable judgment, the two launch a mission to get even.
