A psychedelic queer fever dream in the tradition of Kenneth Anger and early experimental cinema. 

Traversing the psychedelic wonderings of magnetic cult leader Rowen, the film creates its own language of experimentation by blending tactile digital textures with makeup, projections, and animation to create a pastel-soaked world that completely envelopes the senses and rewrites the rules of our reality. Guided through this fairytale by enigmatic Promise (voiced by John Cameron Mitchell) this is a directorial debut unlike any other. Director Alice Voena bravely and serenely paints a new landscape for exploring identity, gender, religion, and the liminal space where they all meet. -LD

Director bio:

Alice Voena is a trans filmmaker and multifaceted artist based in New York City. Cutting her teeth as John Cameron Mitchell's tour manager, Alice has been an active member of the underground NYC drag scene. Alice's art questions the absurdity of life and focuses on the connection that people hold with identity, mortality, and one's own body. "Heaven Above Rowen" is Alice's first feature film.
