Director bio:Camila Rodríguez López is a Puerto Rican-Venezuelan filmmaker, writer, and cultural organizer from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Her work blends fiction, documentary, and community engagement to build cultural archives, expand access to the arts, and tell stories centered on women, migration, inequality, and the enduring legacies of colonialism.

In the Lowcountry, rising sea levels and increased storm threats continue to disproportionately impact Gullah Geechee communities through further displacement and loss of culture. While caring for his forgetful mother, a son weathers the tides of change threatening his Gullah Geechee home and way of life. Director bio: Tyquan D. Morton - a Charleston, South Carolina native - is a literary artist and filmmaker, whose work moves between poetry, multimedia installation and film to explore collective memory, communal intimacy, and the living traditions of the Black American experience.

High Water

While caring for his forgetful mother, a son weathers the tides of change threatening his Gullah Geechee home and way of life in the South Carolina Lowcountry.

A Queer, Deaf poet, finds herself at her grandmother’s repass, surrounded by her distant family members who don’t care to know ASL. She resorts to finding solace in hidden, lonely moments that she can steal in the pockets of her grandmother’s generational brownstone. Her visit is complicated by the arrival of her father Samuel, who’s 20 years into a 25-year prison sentence, released for the day on a furlough to say goodbye to his late mother. Director bio: Mekhai Lee is a proud graduate of the Drama program at UNCSA. He is the 2022 Director’s Fellow on HBO’s “Succession.” Mekhai directed an original short film, “Them That’s Not,” that premiered at Newfest ‘25 Film Festival, since screening at many film festivals including SXSW and Chicago International Film Festival. He is a directing recipient of the NAACP Cinematic Shorts Competition.

Them That's Not

A sudden prison furlough unexpectedly bonds an estranged father with his emotionally avoidant daughter - a Queer, Deaf poet - at their matriarch’s repass.

An aging hermit, Eloy, lives in seclusion in the Colombian mountains, haunted by his grandfather’s ghost and bound to the land. When park rangers bring news of his dying mother, Eloy faces a choice between returning to his family or remaining in the mountain that defines him. Director bio: Estrada is a Venezuelan filmmaker who graduated from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. His films move between documentary and fiction, weaving elements of magical realism into lived reality. His debut documentary short, "Audio y el Caimán"(2024), has screened at over 20 festivals (inc. Sheffield DocFest and Hot Docs), and has received multiple awards. He is currently developing his first feature film, "El Padrote."

Under the Mountain’s Shadow (La Sombra de la Montaña)

Director bio: Dwayne LeBlanc is a first-generation Caribbean-American filmmaker whose work explores migration, visibility, and dual identities. His films include "Civic," named one of The New Yorker’s Best Movies of 2023; "Now, Hear Me Good;" and "You Do Not Exist," which completes his short-film trilogy. A Filmmaker Magazine “25 New Faces” honoree and MacDowell Fellow, he is developing his debut feature.
