Sarcastic and emotionally guarded Lily returns to her childhood home for her older brother Vinh’s Vietnamese American wedding. Waiting for her is Mai, her overbearing, alcoholic mother, whose need for control begins to unravel as the wedding approaches.
As tensions rise and the celebration threatens to fall apart, Lily is pulled into the chaos she’s spent years avoiding. Forced into close proximity, mother and daughter clash over responsibility, resentment, and the roles they’ve been unable to escape.
But within the disorder of the wedding, Lily begins to recognize a shared loneliness beneath her mother’s behavior. As both women confront the distance between them, what starts as resistance slowly shifts toward an uneasy understanding.
Director Biography - Madeleine Tran
Madeleine Tran is a Vietnamese American filmmaker from Southern California. She holds a BFA in Film & Television from New York University, with minors in Psychology and Producing.
In addition to writing and directing her own work, she has collaborated across multiple productions as a producer, production designer, and camera assistant. Her work is driven by an interest in exploring identity, family, and emotional complexity, with a focus on stories centered on women of color and queer communities.
