The global attack on abortion rights is gathering steam. On 20th January 2025, Donald Trump will be inaugurated again as US President. It is a terrifying time for pregnant women and people in America - and across the world. But together we can fight back. That is why we at BPAS, together with Amnesty International UK, have come together to invite you to a virtual screening of Zurawski v Texas on Inauguration Day itself. The film is about a group of women denied abortions who band together with a fearless attorney to sue the state of Texas. We are joining their fight - and we invite you to join it too.
Please come together with us as an act of resistance, and to express solidarity with pregnant women and people in the US, as well as our American reproductive rights activists and colleagues. The event will raise funds for our work and for that of the US-based Brigid Alliance, an organisation that provides logistical support to those in the US needing abortion care.
The in person London screening is now sold out, and so we invite our community to watch online with us on the 20th of January. The film will be available to watch between 6pm - 9pm.
About The Hosts:
The British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) is an independent healthcare charity which, for more than 55 years, has been advocating and caring for those who decide to end a pregnancy. We are the leading specialists of abortion advice and treatment in the UK, taking care of more than 100,000 women and people each year in over 55 reproductive healthcare clinics nationwide. We are committed to protecting and extending reproductive rights and choices. Everyone deserves evidence-based information on which to make their own reproductive choices and we campaign for comprehensive reproductive healthcare services to enable them to exercise those choices.
Amnesty International UK is part of a global movement of more than 10 million people who are committed to creating a future where human rights are enjoyed by everyone. United by our shared humanity, we know that the power to create positive change is within all of us. We are independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion and are funded mainly by our membership and individual donations. We stand with victims of human rights violations whoever they are, wherever they are. No government is beyond scrutiny. We uncover the truth. We hold human rights violators to account.
Women denied abortions under Texas’s ambiguous and unforgiving abortion bans band together with a fearless attorney to sue Texas. While battling in court against the state and its immovable Attorney General, the extent of their traumatic experiences is revealed as they wrestle to regain their reproductive futures and set a precedent for millions of other women and families. ZURAWSKI V TEXAS reveals the dire impact of losing access to healthcare — and the extraordinary efforts of the women and men fighting on the frontline to regain those rights.
