Tour à tour journaliste, critique littéraire, cinématographe et discographe, homme de radio, publicitaire, scénariste, dessinateur, peintre, il est un des principaux pionniers de l'ère médiatique. Libre de tout faire et tout dire, échappant à toute école, Robert Desnos pourrait bien passer pour l'un des créateurs les plus originaux de son époque. À la question « Pourquoi écrivez-vous ? », il répondait « Pour donner rendez-vous ! ». Et les rendez-vous furent nombreux.

He had many talents : journalist, literary critic, cinematographer and discophile. He was a radio broadcaster, an advertising man, writer of scenarios, designer, painter— One of the pioneers of what is now called the media. Free to do and say whatever he liked, bound by no "school", Robert Desnos could well be considered one the most original creators of his time. To the question : "Why do you write ?", he replied , "To make appointments". And his "appointments" were many.
