Director Statement
My name is Analei Song and I am the writer and director of One of My Own. This story revolves around a young adopted Chinese girl navigating her identity amongst a white family and a society that seems to reject her. This is based on my own experience growing up as an adopted POC and I hope to share this with others. This topic is not often discussed in the media and yet it is a shared experience of so many individuals. With this film, I plan to raise awareness about this experience as well as connect with a larger audience. We’ve all looked for a sense of belonging and identity before and this film allows anyone to connect with Maisie regardless of their walk of life. I believe by sharing more stories like this, more people can understand and connect with others. We can begin to appreciate and realize the uniqueness of all those around us and give them a voice.
