Malic is an Assistant Professor of Experimental Media and Film Production at Emerson College in Boston.

Director bio: Nguyên is a Vietnamese film director and editor working across fiction, documentary, and experimental forms. Her films have been officially selected at international festivals including Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur and Singapore International Film Festival.

After hearing about a pagoda's mysterious disappearance, a trio of filmmakers embark on a journey to find an explanation.

An experimental, cameraless animation created from handmade macroalgae celluloid and bio-sonified seaweed. Developed in collaboration with CSIRO marine scientists, "Ode" embodies post-petrochemical cinema in a time of ecological crisis. Director bio: Kirsten Hudson is a transdisciplinary artist-scholar of colonial settler heritage, based in Western Australia. Her 25-year practice moves across expanded cinema, camera-less film and photography to examine how women’s bodies are narrated, regulated and mythologized and how life, loss, transformation and human/nonhuman kinship are rendered through analogue, chemical and environmental processes.

In a desperate attempt to rebrand, a chemical company in Southeastern North Carolina promises clean water, while their neighbors suffer due to the ecological disaster they’ve caused. Using chemically altered 16mm film of greenwashing campaigns, "Good Neighbors Care" calls attention to these corporate lies, rendering visible a crisis that affects 73 million US citizens. Director bio: Kate E. Hinshaw (she/her) is a filmmaker, artist, and cinematographer whose work draws from personal experience and uses analog filmmaking techniques to explore themes of memory, mythology, southern folklore, and ecology. Her films have screened at festivals including SXSW, Rooftop Films, New Orleans Film Festival, Denver Film Festival, and Indie Memphis.

In a desperate attempt to rebrand, a chemical company in North Carolina promises clean water while their neighbors suffer due to the ecological disaster they’ve caused. Using chemically altered 16mm film of greenwashing campaigns, this film renders visible a crisis underpinned by corporate lies.

An audio-visual ritual transforming collective grief into love through song - drawing on voices of global resistance from MLK to bell hooks in defiance of silencing and dispossessions worldwide. Director bio: Rohan Ayinde and Tayo Rapoport are UK-based artists working across film, poetry, installation, sound and performance. Their collaborative practice explores the Black radical imagination as a site of possibility. Their work has been presented at The British Library, the Barbican, the National Gallery, 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair and online via NOWNESS.

Neci is what you call a girl when her name ain't tender enough. Between memory and becoming, a Black woman reaches backward for the girl she was and finds her still there—soft, stubborn, waiting. "SomatiQ Black: Neci" is a meditation on the sweet, hard work of coming home to yourself. Director bio: Born in the American South in 1984, Olamma Oparah draws from her Igbo-American, Afro-Antillian, and southern Black heritage to create a unique film practice centered on oral traditions and cyclical narratives.Her practice explores profound themes such as healing from genetically ingrained PTSD and the challenges women face in effecting internal change when their rage is deemed impolite or ignored.

SomatiQ Black: Neci

Black woman: reach backward through memory for the girl you once were. Meet the selves you buried, borrowed, and became. Tend to the home that was never lost, only waiting.

The birth of a young black couple's first child brings happiness, but also agony. The father experiences and expresses his dilemmas regarding the arrival, coexistence and departure of his beloved firstborn. Director bio: Alex Reis is a Brazilian filmmaker and animation director whose work moves between animation and live action. Drawing from literature, memory, and Afro-Brazilian narratives, his films explore grief, identity, and human connection through handcrafted visual storytelling. His work has screened internationally at Oscar-qualifying festivals.

The birth of a young black couple's first child brings happiness, but also agony. The father experiences and expresses his dilemmas regarding the arrival, coexistence and departure of his beloved firstborn.
