Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Karl-Mary is a first-generation Ivorian American filmmaker whose work centers Black womanhood through a speculative lens. An MFA graduate of UT Austin’s Michener Center for Writers, she is the writer of “Hair Care” (NOFF 2023 premiere, SXSW 2024 Special Jury Award). “What We Carry” is her directorial debut, inspired by her parents’ early experiences in the United States.
