Director Biography - Yiding Wang

Yiding (Carmen) Wang is currently pursuing her MFA in Film Directing at Chapman University in the United States. She previously studied Film Production at the Beijing Film Academy before earning her bachelor’s degree in Film Production from the University for the Creative Arts in the UK, where she gradually developed her artistic focus on directing.

In her creative practice, she has directed several short films, including Jaglion, Perfect Repair, and Stop the Thief, working across both Chinese and British production systems. She is involved in every stage of the filmmaking process—from screenwriting and team building to actor direction, on-set coordination, and editorial work. Jaglion and Perfect Repair especially highlight her strengths in narrative construction, performance direction, and visual style, while also deepening her cross-cultural storytelling sensibilities.

Her work has received international recognition, including Best Student Short at the Los Angeles Independent Film Awards, Best Female Director at the Cannes World Film Festival, and Best Student Film at the New York International Film Awards (NYIFA). Her films explore the intersections of memory, identity, and emotional truth. As a director, she hopes to use cinema to resist oblivion, allowing stories buried by time to be seen once again.
