Our final film block of the festival focuses on hope, and on action. You will see the world through the eyes of a budding young entomologist, passionate conservationists, and ordinary people who become change makers as a form of resilience. This block ends with a "grand" adventure that takes us on a 1,000 mile journey driven by the love of one animal, ending right here in Astoria, where the river meets the sea.

Thanks to our event sponsors Salty Raven, Columbia River Maritime Museum, International League of Conservation Photographers, Pro Photo Supply, Astoria Co-Op, Cannon Beach Book Company, and Tuff Puffin for helping us to bring these incredible films to Astoria!

In Torres del Paine, Chile, photographer Diego Araya encounters a puma kitten born without a tail. He follows the puma through the rugged terrain of Patagonia until her sudden disappearance from her birth territory. 18 months later she is found in Argentina where it is legal to hunt pumas. He races from Chile to Argentina to protect her as she navigates the challenges of living outside the protections of her birth place. The emotional events of this effort move him to a life of protecting Chile’s puma population.
